How would you get to start collecting cups?

As with the most has it started with Kinder “Überraschungseier” – until no one could bear any chocolate any more and the jeans wouldn’t fit anymore! At a tombola in December 1996 I won the super first price – an coffee mug with a company’s logo- just great!

I was so happy about it that I immediately decided to start collecting coffee mugs with company logos- mot everybody does so.

Now with this fresh aroused passion everyone was pulled in: first colleagues at work, then all relatives and friends. Everything looking like a mug with a company’s logo had to be delivered!

When all theses sources where all worn out I started requesting mugs directly at companies by fax from January  till June 2001 with about 12 000 faxes! And asked for sending me their coffee mugs with the company’s logo. I got fax numbers from the ”yellow pages” from all over Germany or wrote them down from advertisements on cars and trucks.

Even the internet wouldn’t be spared. I wrote 10 000s of emails within the last few months. Auch das Internet blieb vor mir nicht verschont. In den letzten Monaten schrieb ich mehrere 10000 e-Mails. Finding email addresses was a bit easier, I simply used search machines.

Partly there weren’t only  coffee mugs coming but also just about anything the cupboard would give away!

And on top of all some companies would sent also other merchandise like pens, buttons, card decks, fire lighters, stickers an such.

After the source of the yellow pages has been drained I started auctioning on ebay. There I bought about 2000 mugs within 1,5 years on auctions. But unfortunately I had to learn that buying just a single cup there would the postage make it very expensive.

I intent with my a bit different kind of collection to make into the Guinness book of records. Even when I have reached this goal one day I would  want to continue collecting coffee mugs to complete my collection with cups from all over the world!

Therefore here is my call to all interested: please send me your coffee mug with a company’s label or offer to trade by e-mail.
